Thank you to all who joined us for the 2022 Shock Trauma Center Celebration to honor and celebrate the heroic men and women of our nation's most advanced network of trauma care. After several challenging years, it was exciting to be able to come together in person for this year's event.
Funds from this year’s celebration will benefit Shock Trauma’s Trauma Prevention and Recovery programs. These programs include Stop the Bleed training and adult and teen education on risky behavior such as impaired and distracted driving. The focus this coming year is to enhance the ability to provide widespread Stop the Bleed training throughout the state of Maryland.
Photos from the event are available on the UMMS Foundation Facebook page. To read the event press release, click here.
At the celebration, guests heard the extraordinary story of Amilcar Mendez, who was seriously injured on Feb. 15, 2020, as he worked on a construction project on the northbound lanes of I-95 near Perryville. We invite you to watch his full story and learn about the hundreds of individuals who directly touched and aided in his recovery journey.
The event also celebrated Dr. Scalea's 25 years of service to Shock Trauma with a special video tribute and a feature of past patients whose lives he helped saved. Dr. Scalea first took the helm of the world-renowned trauma center and UMSOM’s Program in Trauma on Jan. 4, 1997.
