According to John Braun, MD, his perspective on philanthropy is quite simple. “I give because it’s the right thing to do,” he says.
As Chief of Pathology and Director of Laboratory for UMMC Midtown Campus, Dr. Braun and his team provide vital information to accurately diagnose and successfully treat a full spectrum of diseases. Although the laboratory is behind closed doors, “this team truly cares about our patients,” says Dr. Braun. “I am proud of the cohesiveness of this team and their willingness to help each other and our patients. I give to ensure that UMMC Midtown Campus will continue to thrive—for the staff and for the patients we serve” he continues.
Dr. Braun’s philanthropic support of UMMC Midtown Campus began shortly after he joined the medical staff in 1998. Since then, he has actively supported a wide range of initiatives—from special events to a recent leadership pledge in support of the Midtown Campus Capital Campaign. “My family believed firmly in giving and helping others,” states Braun. “I’ve been blessed in that I have the opportunity to invest in worthy projects and people that are important to me personally and professionally.”
Brian Bailey, Senior Vice President and Executive Director, UMMC Midtown Campus, deeply appreciates the generosity of individuals like Dr. Braun. “Midtown Campus physicians are key partners in the continued vision for our hospital,” states Bailey. “Their investment of time and resources are an invaluable contribution to our facilities, our patients and the community. Dr. Braun has distinguished himself as a physician leader in our organization. He is a patient and quality advocate and through his personal financial support, we can advance the Midtown Campus mission of improving the health of the community.”
Through the generosity of donors like Dr. Braun, UMMC Midtown Campus continues to expand its network of care in key areas like chronic disease management. At the University of Maryland Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology, patients living with Type 1 and 2 diabetes, endocrine and metabolic disorders consult with a multidisciplinary team of experts who provide advanced treatments and tools to help patients manage their diseases and go on to live healthy, active lives.
“My goal is to provide the best care possible for our patients,” concludes Dr. Braun. “My team shares that vision and that’s why I do what I do.”
