Siblings Fred Silber and
Beeny Finkelstein shared
a heartbreaking event in
their young lives: the death
of their beloved mother, who passed
away from breast cancer when the
two were just teens. After ultimately
becoming an award-winning photographer
and poet, respectively,
Mr. Silber and Mrs. Finkelstein chose
to honor their mother’s memory
through A Dozen Roses, their book of inspirational poetry accompanied by
extraordinary photographs of roses—
a symbol of comfort, commitment
and love.
Proceeds from the book are helping to fund breast cancer treatment and research programs at the University of Maryland Breast Center and Johns Hopkins Hospital Breast Cancer Center. A series of photos from the book is on permanent display at the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center and the St. Agnes Hospital Breast Cancer Center.
